Biography Emanuel Swedenborg (Swedenborg Emanuel)
(1688-1772) His writings formed the doctrinal basis svedenborgianam - Church of New Jerusalem or New Church. Born January 29, 1688 in Stockholm in the family of professor of theology at Uppsala University, Bishop of Skara. The family bore the name Svedberg, but when his father, becoming a bishop, was elevated to the noble rank (1719), he took the name of Swedenborg.
Swedenborg studied at Uppsala University, traveled extensively in Europe. Initially he was interested in the natural sciences - physics, mathematics. In this field he achieved spectacular success, and his knowledge of mineralogy allowed him to become assessor in the Royal Mountain College (1716), and this post he has held for over 30 years. Swedenborg wrote many important scientific papers and published the scientific journal 'North Daedalus' ( 'Daedalus hyperboreus'), devoted to the mechanics and invention.

In his cosmological theories, and in the mechanics of Swedenborg far ahead of his time and predicted many of the later discoveries, his theory anticipated the nebular hypothesis of Kant and Laplace. He also put forward the theory of molecular, . developed the theory of cosmic atoms, . founded the science of crystallography, . proposed method of determining longitude at sea by the stars, . invented the ear trumpet for the deaf, . developed a mechanism to transport ships to land, . created projects gun, . submarine and aircraft,

In 1743 Swedenborg had gone into the mysticism. In 1745 he published a treatise Honoring God and the love of God, and in 1749 completed the eight-labor heavenly mysteries (Arcana coelestia). For these works followed by other books on theological subjects, of which the most famous being of heaven, hell and the spirit world (1758) and Explanation of the Apocalypse (Apokalypsis revelata, 1766).

Swedenborg taught that the divinely inspired revelation, or word contained in some (but not all) books of the Bible. This word, however, is not recorded in the conventional sense of the text, but in a more or less hidden spiritual meaning.

Swedenborg died in London on 29 March 1772 and was buried in the Swedish Lutheran church, but in 1908 at the request of the Swedish Government for his remains were solemnly transferred to Sweden and were buried in the Cathedral of Uppsala.
