Born September 10, 1624 in Uinford-Iglд? (Dorset). In 1642 entered the University of Oxford, but soon left him to take part in the Civil War. After the victory of Cromwell returned to the University and in 1648 became a Bachelor of Medicine. From 1659 he studied and conducted research in Montpellier. In 1663 was licensed by the College of physicians allowed to practice in London and in 1667 he was awarded a medical degree at Cambridge University.
There are studies Sidenhema in infectious diseases. Sidenhem left a detailed description of smallpox, malaria, scarlet fever and measles. First described the differences from scarlet fever, measles, rheumatism, gout from. Classified and gave the definition of chorea, hysteria, gout, malaria and smallpox. Proposed the concept of infectious pathology as a special kind of disease. He suggested a cooling technique for the treatment of smallpox and intermittent fever, and one of the first to use iron supplementation in anemia. Promote the use of quinine in malaria drugs mercury - in syphilis, recommended long stay in the fresh air in tuberculosis. For many years the popularity enjoyed 'tincture Sidenhema', is used for treatment of intestinal diseases (opium, with the addition of cinnamon, cloves and saffron). Sidenhem developed the doctrine of Hippocrates 'epidemic constitution', the emergence and change is linked to 'changes in the bowels of the Earth, so that the air is polluted by vapors, predisposing to a disease'.

Sidenhem died in London on December 29, 1689.
