Biography TURNER, John Napier (Turner John Napier)

Born June 7, 1929 in Richmond (England). He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1949. Receiving a Rhodes scholarship, he studied at Oxford University. Since 1953 he worked in the Montreal law firm 'Staykman and Elliot'. In 1968 received the title of adviser to the Queen.
In 1962 he was elected to the House of Commons on the list of the Liberal Party. He worked in the government L. Pearson, first minister of northern affairs and natural resources, then minister without portfolio (1965), General Archivist (1967-1968), Minister for Consumer and Corporate (1968) and the Attorney General (1968). After Pearson's retirement in 1968 ran for the post of leader of the Liberal Party, but lost to PE Trudeau. The government of the latter became Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and in 1972 - finance minister. In 1975 he resigned, became a partner in a law firm in Toronto
