Jascha Heifetz (Heifetz Jascha)

(1901-1987)
Born February 2, 1901 in Vilna (now Vilnius, Lithuania). Eight years old graduated from music school in his hometown and became a disciple of L. Auer in St. Petersburg Conservatory. He made his debut in St. Petersburg (1911), and then gave a series of concerts in Odessa, Kiev, Berlin and Leipzig. In 1917 he made his debut in New York. From 1960 he taught violin playing in the University of California. Dazzling technique and great interpretation - the distinctive features of style Heifetz, made him one of the most famous violinists of his generation. Heifetz died in Los Angeles on Dec. 10, 1987.
