Born 2 (14) January 1896 in the village Antandriyus Vilnius province to a peasant family. He studied at St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute in 1915 graduated Konstantinovskoe Artillery School. May 29, 1937, was arrested on charges of involvement in the so-called military-fascist conspiracy in the Red Army.
