Biography UISSLER Clark (Wissler Clark)
(1870-1947)
Born September 18, 1870, near Cambridge (pc. Indiana). He was educated at Indiana University, majored in psychology and pedagogy. He taught at Columbia University, where under the influence of Franz Boas and Livingston Ferrand carried away anthropology, has worked at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and taught at Yale University.
Uissler conducted field research in the prairies of western states, where he studied the tribes of Sioux Indians and 'Blackfoot'. Among his works - American Indian (American Indian, 1917), Man and Culture (Man and Culture, 1923), Indians of the United States (Indians of United States, 1940). The concept of cultural area has been developed Uisslerom, Boas and several other scientists to the classification of ethnological collections. Uissler died in New York on August 25, 1947.
