FUENTES, Carlos (Fuentes Carlos)

Born November 11, 1928 in g. Panama. The son of a diplomat, he led a cosmopolitan life style: he studied in Mexico City and Geneva (1944-1950), served in the Mexican capital's university, in the Mexican Foreign Ministry, the UN, Ambassador of Mexico in France (1975-1977), traveled extensively around the world.
Recognition came to Fuentes after the publication of his first novel, Edge cloudless clarity (La region mas transparente, 1958), which recreated a broad picture of life of post-revolutionary Mexico. Many scenes and characters united mythical figure Ixcoy Cienfuegos. In 1962 there were psychological fiction novel Aura (Aura) and the novel The Death of Artemio Cruz (La muerte de Artemio Cruz). It tells the story of the financial magnate, enriched after the revolution. At the deathbed of the protagonist recalls the important events of his life, narrated from the first, second and third person in three time dimensions - present, future and past. In monumental phantasmagoric novel Terra Nostra (Latin. Our Land, 1975) writer alter the historical events, mixes time schedules, deploys chain inconceivable metamorphosis, holds the heroes from the time of Philip II of Spain to the Aztec Empire.

Fuentes also wrote novels Hydra Head (La cabeza de la hidra, 1978), distant family (Una familia lejana, 1980), Old gringo (El gringo viejo, 1984; rus. translated 1988), Christopher Unborn (Cristobal nonato, 1988), Campania (La Campaa, 1991) and others. His pen owned collections of short stories, plays and essays.
