HIT Edward Richard (Heath Edward Richard)

Born July 9, 1916 in Brodsterse (Kent). He studied at Balliol College, Oxford University. During the war he served in the Army, then worked in the church newspaper, joined the bank.
In 1950 Heath was elected to Parliament from the Conservative Party, has passed all stages Party career. Has held positions of Minister of Labor (1959-1960), Lord Privy Seal (1960-1963) and Minister of Trade (1963-1964). After 1964 the Conservatives were defeated in elections in 1965 became the leader of the opposition. In 1970 became Prime Minister.

Like his Labor predecessor, Harold Wilson, Heath faced with the need, on the one hand, to control inflation, but on the other - to stimulate and modernize the industry. Hit lowered taxes and in 1971 signed an agreement on the conditions of entry into the UK from 1973 to the European Economic Community. In 1972, established a tight control over wage increases, but even this measure proved futile after the 1973 oil crisis. In 1974, Heath was forced to resign as prime minister, and in 1975 - with the post of leader of the Conservative Party. His successor was Margaret Thatcher.
