Biography Aristoxenus (Aristoksenos)
Aristoxenus, Aristoksenos of Tarentum, the second half of IV. BC. e., Greek philosopher and music theorist. He studied music with his father and Spinfara Lampreia from Eritrea, then studied in Athens by the Pythagoreans and Aristotle. It is considered the creator peripaticheskoy biography. From his Biography (Bioi) preserved architectural fragments of biographies, Socrates, Plato. A. was also the author of numerous works on the theory of music, in which he expounded the doctrine of the Pythagoreans and Aristotle on the moral and healing effects of music. Created rhythmic theory of verse based on music and dance accompaniment. Developing musical theory, outlined the major tones and semitones.
