Biography Pedia Ascona (Asconius Pedianus)
Ascona Pedia, Asconius Pedianus, 9 g. BC. EG-76 g. n. e., a Roman grammarian and scholar and philologist. Born in Padua. In 54-57 years. n. e. wrote an exhaustive commentary on the speeches of Cicero, which covered all the speeches, but have been preserved only explanation for the five. Since two of these speeches have been lost, comment A.P. is particularly valuable, because makes it possible to reconstruct. A.P. used good sources, for example, acts of the Senate, as well as the use of all the works of Cicero, with the exception of issued letters to Atticus. The model he served as a comment to Demosfenu Didymus. Among commentators and grammarians of the Empire A.P. carefully developed different methods of investigation, a thorough study of sources and clarity of language. Among the lost works A.P. should be called Biography of Sallust, Pir (perhaps an imitation of Plato) and against the slanderers of Virgil.
