Babrius, Babrios, I in. n. e., Greek fabulist, most likely Italic origin, though he lived - perhaps - in Syria. V. wrote lame iambs (Choliamb) fables, drawing on themes like Aesop, and from other sources, which must novelistic and anecdotal stories. Of the 10 (or maybe two?), Save only 143 fables, written in a rather vulgar vernacular dialect (koine) and the dominant elements of the Ionian. B. even in the III. school became a classic author.
