A LEXANDER Ya Gnusarev, Corporal, arrows 1 st Battalion, 883rd Infantry Regiment (193rd Red Banner Rifle Division, 65 Army, the Central Front). Born March 28, 1922 in a. In 1942 he was mobilized into the Red Army. From February until October 1943 on the Don, Central and Belorussian fronts. Took part in the final battle to defeat the enemy on the banks of the Volga, in the Battle of Kursk, the liberation of Ukraine and Belarus. Seriously wounded on Oct. 16, 1943. Prior to May 1945 was treated in hospital. For military distinction awarded two medals.

At the end of September 1943 the division, which served Gnusarev, went to the Dnieper River near the village of Loew and attempted to cross the river on the run. This attempt was unsuccessful: the enemy advance took up defensive positions on the western bank of the river and held under heavy fire. Parts began systematic preparations for crossing.
October 15 battalion commander summoned a group of men, selected in the companies for mission-critical tasks. Chatting with each of them, he declared that before crossing the main forces battalions to destroy the two-ambrazurny machine-gun bunker on the western bank of the river. Gnusarev was appointed commander of the group.

Our artillery responded powerful raids around the site of the upcoming crossing.

In the first rays of morning sun on the ruins of the bunker fluttered scarlet flag. The battalion began its crossing of the Dnieper. Gnusarev fought off the enemy were pressing until reinforcements. Badly wounded, he was unconscious evacuated from the battlefield and before May 1945 was treated in hospital.
