P anikaha Michael Averyanovich deputy commander of the Branch 1 st company 883rd Infantry Regiment (193rd Infantry Division, 62 Army, Stalingrad Front) Private. Born in 1918 in the village now Tsarichanskogo Mogilev region Dnipropetrovsk region in a peasant family. Ukrainetz. Primary Education. Worked on the farm.
In the Red Army from 1939. In the battles of the Great Patriotic War in March 1942.
On the night of September 28, 1942 on the right bank of the Volga crossed two regiments of the 193rd Infantry Division, Major General F.N. Smehotvorova, which were immediately put into action on the western outskirts of the village of Krasny Oktyabr in Stalingrad (now Volgograd). Throughout the night the artillery 62-th army led bombardment Mamaev Kurgan, preventing the enemy a foothold on it. On the morning of Sept. 28 at position 883rd Infantry Regiment, 193rd Infantry Division, brought down his blow part of the 24 Panzer and 71 th Infantry Division of the enemy, but their attacks were repulsed. In reflection counterattack 7 tanks and a group of submachine-October 2, 1942 Private Panikaha went to the head tank with a grenade and firebombs. When one of the bottles was broken fragment of an enemy shell and clothing ignited the torch, Panikaha rushed to the enemy tank and broke his armor another bottle, set it on fire, and he died. The remaining tanks turned back.
By the title of Hero of the Soviet Union was in November 1942, but the title was given only 5 May 1990 was posthumously. Awarded the Order of Lenin, World War 1 degree.
In place of the death of Michael Panikahi a monument. One of the streets of Volgograd is the name of the hero. His name is inscribed on the memorial plate on the mass grave Mamaev Kurgan.
