Attempts to break through this line failed, and our troops had achieved a foothold on the frontier.
At dawn on December 9, 1944 the enemy went on the offensive. On the narrow section of the front in the r. Sandor he threw into the battle 28 tanks, 8 armored vehicles and two battalions of infantry, having to throw our troops on the left bank of the Danube. The defending infantry here on the orders of commanders withdrew from their positions, and was moving to a new line. Gunners were alone against overwhelming enemy forces. Enemy tanks were moving forward, not noticing the great camouflaged gun guards. When the leading car came to a radiator at 400 meters, the team Suroshnikova was given the first salvo.
