. Suroshnikov treated in hospital. After receiving disability, was discharged from the Soviet Army. Lived in Belarus in g. Borisov, Minsk region, worked at a pasta factory, named after VI. Lenin.

E it was in December 1944. Our troops, after heavy fighting south-west of Budapest, crossed the Danube and occupied the bridgehead on the western bank. In the composition of these troops was the battery and 57-millimeter guns, which commanded Suroshnikov. Further movement of Soviet units were stopped at pre-arranged lines of "Margarita". Attempts to break through this line failed, and our troops had achieved a foothold on the frontier.

At dawn on December 9, 1944 the enemy went on the offensive. On the narrow section of the front in the r. Sandor he threw into the battle 28 tanks, 8 armored vehicles and two battalions of infantry, having to throw our troops on the left bank of the Danube. The defending infantry here on the orders of commanders withdrew from their positions, and was moving to a new line. Gunners were alone against overwhelming enemy forces. Suroshnikov decided to take the fight to delay the enemy, to enable our infantry to occupy new positions.

Enemy tanks were moving forward, not noticing the great camouflaged gun guards. When the leading car came to a radiator at 400 meters, the team Suroshnikova was given the first salvo. Two tanks puffed and stopped. From these shots light up another. The remaining tanks stopped and opened fire on the battery.

Soon direct hit from enemy shell had smashed the fourth gun. Break the link with the headquarters, there was no connection with neighbors. One after another went down guards. Injured Suroshnikov. Survivors gunners, including the wounded, continued to struggle with the enemy were pressing.

Three hours later, fight all the guns were smashed by enemy fire. Second, this time heavy, wounded Suroshnikov. Bleeding, he continued to fight.

The Nazis went to the seventh attack. Four of the survivors wounded guardsmen met Hitler grenades and automatic fire. But the forces were clearly unequal, and the enemies were ready to celebrate a victory.

At this point, to help the heroic battery came reinforcements. The enemy was driven back to its original position.
