W alandin Waldemar S. - platoon leader, 1 st Guards Tank Brigade (1 st Guards Tank Army, the Voronezh Front) Guard lieutenant. Born December 12, 1924 in Moscow in the family of a serviceman. Russian. Graduated from high school. In the Soviet Army from 1942. In the same year he graduated from the tank school in Tashkent.
In the army from February 1943. Guard Lieutenant Shalandin distinguished July 6, 1943 at the Kursk Bulge in defensive battles near the village of Yakovlev (now c. Belgorod region). Roth, in which the crew acted Shalandina, began to bypass a group of enemy tanks. Komsomolets Shalandin and members of his crew Sergeant VG. Kustov, VF. Lekomtsev and Sergeant P.E. Zelenin engaged in battle with a numerically superior enemy. Acting in an ambush, they let a enemy tanks on the distance-blank, and then, slapping the sides, burned two Б• Б•? tiger and one medium tank. But Shalandina tank was hit and caught fire. Buried in the village Yakovlev. Forever enrolled in the lists of the Kharkov Tank School. On the building of the Moscow School Б•ї 454 a memorial plaque.
Awarded the Order of Lenin.
