Biography Favorinus (Favorinus)
Favorinus; Favorinus, from Arelaty (sovr. Arles), ca. 85 ca. 150 years. n. e., Greek speaker, the representative of the second sophistry. He studied first at Massilia (sovr. Marseille), then, apparently, in Rome, was a pupil of Dion Grisostomo. Excellent speaker, as in Rome, and in many Greek cities, providing a loud fame. Spoke and wrote primarily in Greek. Was close to the Emperor Hadrian, who later lost favor and was exiled to Chios, where he returned to Rome with Antonina Pia. There he lived until his death in abundance and glory. Among students and friends F. were Plutarch, Gerod Attic, Pediment, Gellius. Apparently, he was personally acquainted with Epictetus. Of the numerous rhetorical and philosophical works of F. survived by his two speeches in the collection of speeches Dion Grisostomo (37 Corinthian speech and speech about the fate of 64), as well as on papyrus - vast parts of speech into exile, written in Chios. Among the lost works of F. were two major works, is a collection of excerpts from a rich range of reading the author (Wed. the later works of Ateneo and Eliana): Memorandum (Apomnemoneumata) at least 5 books used by Diogenes Laertius, and different stories (Pantodape) in 24 books.
