Ernst Cassirer (Cassirer)

Cassirer, Ernst (Cassirer), (1874-1945), German idealist philosopher, the representative of the Marburg school of neo -. Born July 28, 1874 in Breslau, Silesia, the son of a wealthy merchant-Jew. He studied at the universities of Berlin, Leipzig and Heidelberg. In 1919-33 Cassirer was a professor and rector (1930 - 33) University of Hamburg. Author of the monograph "The philosophy of symbolic forms" (1923 - 29), which suggested an original concept of the philosophy of culture. After the Nazis came to power in 1933 Cassirer left Germany. He worked at Oxford (1933-35), Gothenburg (1935-41) and from 1941 he taught at Yale University (USA). Posted by a number of historical and philosophical works of Leibnitz, Kant, Descartes and others. Cassirer died in Princeton, New Jersey, April 13, 1945.
