Biography Walther von Reichenau (Reichenau)
Reichenau, Walther von (Reichenau), (1884-1942), Field-Marshal Germanic army. Born August 16, 1884 in Karlsruhe in the family of a diplomat. Volunteered for the army, was a member of 1-st world war, fought under the authority of Paul von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff during the battle of Tannenberg, 26-29 August 1914. Then he served in the Reichswehr. Since 1930, Chief of Staff Military District. In 1933-35 Head of Department in the Ministry of the Reichswehr from General Werner von Blomberg. Despite the fact that the Reichenau had a low opinion of Hitler, he, nevertheless, as a soldier of the old Prussian school, considered it his duty to support Hitler and actively participated in the creation of the Wehrmacht. As a liaison officer between the party and army leadership, Reichenau quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most fanatically minded Nazis among the generals.

January 10, 1935 he was awarded the rank of general. At the end of this year, he was appointed commander of the 7 th Military District, in Munich, succeeding General William Adama. In 1939 Reichenau was appointed commander of 4 th Army Group, in no small part because, unlike many other senior officers of the Reich, he shared Hitler's war. In September 1939, Reichenau commanded the 10 th Army, and from October 1939 - 6 th Army, led by taking part in the fighting in Poland, France and the Soviet Union.

. Since December 1941 was the commander of Army Group South. He died of a heart attack (version - aviation accident) January 17, 1942 in Poltava.
