Fyurtvengler, Wilhelm (FurtwIngler), (1886-1954), the most famous German conductor of the XX century. Born January 25, 1886 in Berlin. After the Munich Conservatory, performed on the stages of Strasbourg, Lц?beck, Mannheim, Vienna, Frankfurt and Berlin. In 1922-45 headed the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. Starting from 1937 conducted the Bayreuth Festival dedicated to the works of composer Richard Wagner. In 1926 and 1927 led the New York Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra 1927-30.
