WANG Ru

AN WANG (Wang An) (7 February 1920, Shanghai, China - March 24, 1990, Boston, Massachusetts), an American electronics engineer and businessman of Chinese origin. The founder of Wang Laboratories.

Born in the family of teacher. In 1940 he graduated from Shanghai University with a Bachelor. In 1945 he emigrated to the United States, where in 1948 he received a doctorate in physics at Harvard University. For the first time acquainted with computers at Harvard, Wang in 1948, invented a storage device on the magnetic core, which was used in computers until the chips. In 1951 Wang founded the company Wang Laboratories, which manufactures desktop calculators and office computers. Wang's company has become one of the most successful U.S. high-tech enterprises in 1970's and early 1980's. Wang's company developed some basic principles of word processing and received about 40 patents. Wang word processing system went on sale in 1972.

Wang remained president until 1986, then handed control to his son, Frederick. After the death of Wang's company has inherited his family.
