Biography Bjornson Bjö?rnstjerne
Bjornson, Bjö?rnstjerne (Bjö²rnson, Bjö²rnstjerne) (1832-1910), Norwegian author. Born on December 8 Kvikne, son of a rural pastor. In 1852 entered the University of Oslo. Actively involved in the socio-political and cultural life, devoting himself to the struggle for distinctive national culture. Already in 1854 he became a prominent figure through theatrical reviews, which have contributed to the campaign for the replacement of the Danish Theater in Oslo, the Norwegian national theater. His first novel, Synnö?ve Sulbakken "(Synnö²ve Solbakken, 1857), from peasant life, has become a landmark in Norwegian literature. Until 1873 Bjornson alternately wrote village stories and dramas of the historical past of Norway, the only exception was the play of "Mary Stuart" (1864).
Only literary work Bjornson not limited to: he published a magazine, led the theater and made speeches in support of the growing strengths of the liberal-nationalist movement. His work in this field crowned establishment in 1859 the Norwegian national anthem and the formation of the Liberal Party in the 1860's

In search of new creative incentives in 1873 Bjornson went to Southern Europe. For two years he traveled, mainly in Italy and Tyrol, and returned with the dramas "Bankruptcy" (En fallit) and "Editor" (Redaktö²ren, both published in 1875). It was followed by other plays and novels in the topic of the day - "Flags wafted over the city and overlooking the harbor" (Det flager i byen og paa havnen, 1884), dealing with matters of sex education, and "God's way" (Paa guds veje, 1889) , the conflict of science and the church. Bjornson himself was inclined to evolutionism, and positivism. In the play "Over our forces" (Over aevne, 1883), the author tried to show the severity of belief in the supernatural.

In 1903, Bjornson was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. Bjornson died in Paris on April 26, 1910.
