Biography Wendy Wasserstein
Wasserstein, Wendy (Wasserstein, Wendy) (p. 1950), American playwright. Born October 18, 1950 in Brooklyn (New York). She graduated from Mount Holyoke College (BA, 1971), City College of City University of New York (Master of Arts, 1973) and the dramatic school at Yale University (1976).
At City College mastered the art of writers under the guidance of Joseph Heller's and Israeli's Horowitz. In 1973 was put her first play "One of the women can not" (Any Women Can't). While studying at Yale were written the play "Montpelier Pa-Zazz", . set in New Haven in 1974 and the play "When Dinah Shore rule on earth" (When Dinah Shore Ruled the Earth, . with the playwright Christopher Durango), . set in New Haven in 1975,

The first significant piece Wasserstein "remarkable woman and the other" (Uncommon Women and Others) was at Yale. The writer has finalized her, transformed into a two-act, which was presented in vnebrodveyskom theater 'Phoenix'. In 1978 the play was shown on television in the program prepared by the corporation 'brodkesting Public Service'. In 1979, Wasserstein staged for them the story of John Cheever "Sorrows of gin".

Next her play "How romantic" (Isn't It Romantic) poses the problem of relations of the modern woman to marry. The premiere was held in 1981 in one of vnebrodveyskih theaters, without causing enthusiasm among critics. In the revised version, it showed in late 1983 larger vnebrodveysky theater, where she successfully went on for a long time. This was followed by musical comedy "Miami" (Miami, 1986).

Play of the author's name became "Heidi Chronicles" (The Heidi Chronicles), which premiered in vnebrodveyskom Theater in 1988. "Heidi Chronicles" received awards 'Tony', Dramatists Guild and the Pulitzer Prize. It was followed by the Sisters Rozensvig "(The Sisters Rosensweig, 1992). "American daughter" (An American Daughter, 1997) - a play, in which more politics than in other works Wasserstein. Wasserstein is also the author of a book of humorous essays "Girls bachelor" (Bachelor's Girls, 1990) and children's book "Pamela's First Musical" (Pamela's First Musical, 1996).

Her latest play "Old Money" (Old Money) is devoted to the life of a secular New York in the past and present (the premiere was held in November 2000).
