Biography DANN John Gregory
Dunne, John Gregory (Dunne, John Gregory) (1932-2003), American novelist, journalist, screenwriter. Born May 25, 1932 in Hartford (pc. Connecticut). In 1954 he graduated from Princeton University, briefly served in the Army, then became a staff member of the New York magazine 'Time'. In 1964 he married novelist Joan Didion, and moved to California. The first two of his books are documentary in nature - "Delano: The history of grape pickers strike in California" (Delano: The Story of the Californian Grape Strike, . 1967) and "Studio" (The Studio, . 1969) and are critical situation in the film industry,

First novel "Vegas: Memories of a dark period" (Vegas: A Memoire of a Dark Season) came out in 1974. His heroes - lounging comedian, a private detective and compose verses prostitute - have incorporated the traits of people encountered by the author in Las Vegas. Critics praised the book, noting that the writer has eloquently submit underside of a well-oiled entertainment.

His second novel, "True Confessions" (True Confessions, 1977) was, according to many critics 'book, which he was born to write'. The novel is not a detective in the conventional sense. The focus is not on a mysterious murder, and the love-hate relations between the two Irish Catholics - police lieutenant and an ambitious priest, - involved in this case. Great success had taken the script Didion and Dunne's self-titled film starring Robert De Niro and Robert Duval (1981).

"This Shea, Jr." (Dutch Shea, Jr., 1982) - a novel, in which the issue of corruption raised in the medium of Irish Catholics, this time on the example of the protagonist Neck, a lawyer representing the interests of dubious clients. Shea is a type of man, devoid of illusions, with crude humor and its own code of honor, more important to him than even shame in the eyes of society.

In the center of the novel "Red, White, Blue" (Red, White and Blue, 1987) - history of the family of a tycoon, shown through the perception of his son, and grows in the presentation with grim humor the story of America. More epic than the previous book writer, the novel covers a period of time in almost 30 years - from the radical 1960's through the Vietnam War to the present day

Among other works of Dunn - autobiographical "Harp" (Harp, . 1988), . two collections of essays - "Quintana and Friends" (Quintana & Friends, . 1978) and "Melody" (Crooning, . 1990), . novel "Pleylend" (Playland, . 1994) and "Monster: From the big screen in the life" (Monster: Living off the Big Screen, . 1997),

In collaboration with Didion Dunne wrote the scripts of films "Panic in Needle Park" (Panic in Needle Park, . 1971) and "Take" as is "(Play It as It Lays, . 1972), together with other authors - "A Star Is Born" (A Star is Born, . 1976), . "True Confessions" (True Confessions, . 1981) and "Close to the heart" (Up Close and Personal, . 1996),

Dunn died in New York on 30 December 2003.
