Biography Marguerite Duras
Duras, Marguerite (Duras, Marguerite; pseudo., Present. name - Marguerite Donado, Donnadieu) (1914-1996), French novelist, playwright and film director. Born April 4, 1914 at Saigon (now Vietnam), where her parents were engaged in teaching activities. After receiving two undergraduate degrees in Saigon, in 1931 went to Paris, studied at the Sorbonne.
The main theme of her work - a revolt against the drabness of everyday life. First novels of Duras revealed a strong influence concise manner of writing E. Hemingway. Typical in this sense, "Dam Against the Pacific" (Un Barrage contre le Pacifique, 1950) and "Sailor from Gibraltar" (Le Marin de Gibraltar). In Moderato Cantabile (1958) motif impossible, far-fetched handed poetic love, broken style, so characteristic of her subsequent works. This works to a greater degree of inherent opacity of meaning, and sometimes a strong element of eroticism, as in "deadly disease" (La Maladie de la mort, 1982). Largely autobiographical novel "The Lover" (L'Amant, 1984, Prix Goncourt) recreates the Indo-China in recent years of French occupation and the collapse of the doomed family of the narrator. Memoirs and the book is "Pain" (La Douleur, 1986), in which the principal place has gone through a description by the author in the last days of World War II.

His most famous work of Duras - a scenario which has become a classic film A. Rene "Hiroshima, My Love" (Hiroshima, Mon Amour, 1959). Duras died in Paris on March 3, 1996.
