Winona Vasily Ivanovich

Winona, Vasily Ivanovich (1901-1964), Russian ballet dancer, choreographer. Born in St. Petersburg, 8 (21) February 1901. At the end of the Petrograd Choreographic School in 1919-1938 - artist, from 1935 - choreographer of the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater, in 1946-1950 and 1954-1958 - choreographer of the Bolshoi Theater. Vainonen started to put the dances in the 1920's, in 1930 was one of the directors of ballet "Golden Age" (with L. Jacobson and VP Chesnakovym, the music of Shostakovich). However, the first major success was Vainonen on the developments of the French Revolution Ballet "Flames of Paris" (music Asafiev, 1932). Later Vainonen turned to themes revolutionary or modern, revealing their mostly of scenic transformed by folklore, and mime ( "Guerrilla Days" 1937; "militia", 1947 - both with music Asafiev). Among his most successful productions were comedies, including "Mirandolina" (music by S. Vasilenko, 1949). The rich choreographic imagination, manifested not only in the characteristic, but also of classical dance has allowed him to create in 1934 his newspaper Ballet of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, the performance was in many theaters in the USSR and abroad.
Vainonen died in Moscow on March 23, 1964.
