Biography Ruth Rendell
Rendell, Ruth (Barbara Vine) (Rendell, Ruth (Barbara Vine)) (present. name Grazeman) (p. 1930), British novelist, author of detective stories, psychological thrillers and short stories. She manages to combine fertility and skills that enable her to put on a par with recognized authors detectives. Rendell is famous for its ability to write characters, the ability to intrigue the reader, to build stories with an unexpectedly grim denouement. From the majority of authors of detective prose distinguished by its irony, interest in language, particularly figurative style, inventive dialogue inherent in serious prose.
Rendell was born in London on February 17, 1930. Graduated High School in Essex County Leighton. From 1948 to 1952 worked as a journalist and assistant editor in the private papers of the West Essex.

In his first book, "From Tung death" (From Doon with Death, 1964) it appears as a continuous characters: a police detective Reginald Veksvord and his assistant Mike Burden of Kingsmarkhema, a fictional market town. We Veksvorda much in common with Inspector Maigret by Georges Simenon. Itself Rendell called British Simenon. Mike Burden - the exact opposite of his boss. Bearden - strict, dissatisfied with the modern world, he is accustomed to act by traditional methods. Rendell reveals the characters of his characters as the story. The reader sees how the Puritan Burden, especially after losing his wife and almost ruined his career in the novel "No more deaths" (No More Dying Then, 1971), as he becomes more tolerant of human weaknesses. According to Jane C. Beykerman from the magazine 'Cartoons on the sofa', . 'ability to build normal relations heroes, . find a balance between the friendly affection and complicated situations official, . allows them to withstand the onslaught of hatred and alienation, . the atmosphere which events unfold ',
.

The cycle of novels about Inspector Veksvorde consists of nineteen books. The hero is gradually aging, and the novel "was murdered" (Murder Being Once Done, 1972) he has a stroke. In the next novel, "Someone is lying, . and someone dies "(Some Lie and Some Die, . 1973), . which the unfolding events around the rock festival, . Veksvord returned to his duties, . and his ability to understand young people and take their value in helping him solve the case,
. In the novel "Life in a dream" (A Sleeping Life, 1978) personal drama of the daughter of Sylvia makes Veksvorda insight into the problem of gender relations and ideas of feminism. Roman "Adviser of mandarin" (Speaker of Mandarin, 1978) takes a hero in China, but the key to the mystery, he finds, only returning to England. References to classical Chinese poetry formed in the text of the novel in-built system tips. Veksvord read a lot, and he is always ready quote. These quotes are either thematic or symbolic link to the plot, and sometimes part of the quotation is the name of the book. In "The brutality of ravens" (An Unkindness of Ravens, 1985) Veksvordu must explore feminist terminology and Freudianism, in order to investigate the murder of dvoezhentsa group of adolescent girls, militant feminists. In the novel "Under the veil" (The Veiled One, 1988) Randall explores the fact that the browser 'New Statesman' calls 'threat, veiled everyday life'. As in her other novels, this study does not seem related to the main storyline, but ultimately it is a riddle. In the novel, "Kissing the gunners daughter" (Kissing the Gunner's Daughter, 1992) alienation from his beloved daughter does not allow Veksvordu identify the murderer. In "Simisole" (Simisola, 1994) Quiet Kingsmarkhem faced with all the problems of modern city, from racism to domestic tyranny. Description of the town, torn apart by the social divisions that affect all sectors of society, allows us to compare the novel Rendell with "Middle-March of" George Eliot. And in the novel, the infliction of evil "(Harm Done, 1999), according to critics, the pen Rendell has not lost acuity.

Veksvord and Burden also appear in the stories Rendell. One of them, "new friend" (The New Girl Friend), a grim story of sexual games, set out in a restrained manner, won Edgar Allan Poe in 1975. Stories, . Non-cycle Veksvorda, . published in collections of "The curtain dropped and other stories" (The Fallen Curtain and Other Stories, . 1976), . "Shivering wood and other mysterious stories" (The Fever Tree and Other Stories of Suspense, . 1982) and "Blood Line" (Blood Lines, . 1996) draw strange pictures, . simultaneously fascinating and repulsive,
. As well as novels, short stories Rendell inherent brevity of presentation, a rigorous composition, unpredictability and eccentricity of the plot. In the last cycle of stories, "Skerti of Piran and other stories" (Pirahna to Skurty and Other Stories, 2000), Rendell, according to Publishers Weekly, 'once again showed himself a master of intrigue exciting'.

In addition to novels about Veksvorde Rendell wrote novels, where there is no investigator. Its genre is a psychological thriller. In the novel, "I see the demon" (A Demon in My View, 1976) psychology student picks a game with the children and accidentally triggers maniac, bystanders. In "Stone verdict" (A Judgment in Stone, 1977) housewife, suffering from mental disorder, is forced to kill to keep secret. Events leading to the novel to mass murder, seem too plausible. Writes New York Times, 'little by little, all these well-meaning people approximate own death'. "Doll-killer" (The Killing Doll, 1984) and "Tree of hands" (The Tree of Hands, 1984) affect the lack of mystery, open the image of violence. There were no mysteries, no revelations, causes of actions are not explained. These novels are not interesting plot twists and complex inner lives of characters.

By the end of the eighties Rendell still published novels Veksvorde, but many readers and critics were more interested in its psychological detective. Rendell - a writer of intellectual warehouse, it uses the skill of the narrator to bring in more profound mystery, exciting and terrifying secret, as required by the laws of the genre - mystery of human beings. Washington Post beech World, 'said about her nineteenth psychological thriller, . "Landscape for tired eyes" (A Sight for Sore Eyes, . 1999): 'Amazing! Reading this, . continually exclaims: can not be! Catch yourself on these words every time, . when Rendell invents a new move - fortuitous, . but it is quite natural for the story ',
. In 2002, she released her twentieth novel of this type, "Adam and Eve and pinch me" (Adam and Eve and Pinch Me), and again a great success.

In addition, in the eighties Rendell added to the two types mastered her new novel, for which use a pseudonym Barbara Vine. As she explained, she wanted to keep her voice 'became quieter and quieter, more heartfelt and direct'. From the first novel, . signed the name of Vine, . Eye, . accustomed to the darkness "(The Dark-Adapted Eye, . 1986), . the eleventh, . "Blood Doctor" (The Blood Doctor, . 2002), . Rendell draws the world, . where even those crimes, . which are not punishable by law, . must be avenged,
.
