. Armstrong, Daniel Louis "Sechmo" ( "Sechelmaut", "Geytmaut," "Dipper Mouth," "Dipper", "Feys," "Pops," "Little Louis", "King Of Jazz", "Ambassador Setch)
. Great American jazz musician (trumpet, cornet), vocalist, band leader, composer. The date of his birth was not sure and probably chose it arbitrarily - July 4, 1901 (Independence Day), more plausible version - 1898. Grew up in a poor, dysfunctional family (mother - a laundress, illegal prostitution, father - day laborer, abandoned the family when his son was about 5 years). Educated grandmother (in the past - a slave). Since childhood, was forced to earn a living newsboys, peddlers of coal, junkman, and the like. In Storville (New Orleans' entertainment quarter ") heard of many early jazz musicians, singing in the street vocal ensemble (also played drums)

. Incidental mischievous act (shooting on the street with a gun, . stolen from a policeman - one of the "visitors" mother) was in house of correction (1913), . here, . despite difficulties, . began to study music, . mastered altgorn and cornet, . played in the brass band and choir,
. After his release, he returned home and interrupted rare jobs, played in bars with amateur ensembles and continued to learn from New Orleans musicians. Through familiarity with the "King" Oliver and his recommendation was adopted in the orchestra "Kid" Ory (in place of Oliver, who left in Chicago). Occasionally appeared in Tuxedo Braes Band Oscar "Papa" Celestine, Paul Dominguez, "WTPIA" Singleton, Alberto Nichols, "Barney" Bigard, Louis Russell, in riverbot band, including the Jazz-E-Sazz Band "Faith" Mereybla. During this period he became a professional musician.

At the invitation of "King" Oliver, in 1922 he moved to Chicago, playing in his Creole Jazz Band for 2 years as a second cornet, then moved to New York where he appeared as a trumpeter and a singer with an orchestra of Fletcher Henderson. Participated in the records of Clarence Williams' Blue Five. Besides, . recorded on the plate in the composition of various accompanying ensembles with many blues and jazz singers (Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, . "Trixie Smith, . Clara Smith, . Bessie Smith, . Alberto Hunter, . Maggie Jones, . Eve Taylor, . Virginia Liston, . Margaret Johnson, . "Sipi" Wallace, . Perry Bradford),
. Upon expiration of an engagement at the V. Henderson (1925) once again worked in Chicago, . - Especially with Lil Hardin (pianist of the Creole Jazz Band, . who was married to Stewart in 1924 38g.g., . in 1925, organized together with its own orchestra), . later in Erskine Tate in a theatrical show band (here clearly demonstrated his acting talent and stage),
. In November 1925 started recording with them to set up studio ensembles Hot Five (with the participation of "Kid" Ory, Johnny Dodds, Johnny St. Cyr and L. Hardin, later - Fred Robinson, Jimmy Strong, Earl Hines, "WTPIA" Singlona and others) and Hot Seven (since May 1927, when the quintet was joined by Pete Briggs and "Baby" Dodds).

In 1926 soloist orchestra Carroll Dickerson, after which the head of this team (1929). Within a short period of time in 1927 led his own orchestra (Louis Armstrong And His Stomperts), participants of which were Boyd Atkins, Joe Dixon, E. Washington, Earl Hines, "Rip" Basset, P. Briggs, "Tubby" Hall. In the same period acted as a duet with Earl Hines in the orchestra Clarence Jones, toured in various cities in the U.S. (in 1929 - in New York, where he worked with the orchestra L. Russell and "Duke" Ellington, then in California - with the orchestra Leon Elkins and Forests Hayta, participated in the filming in Hollywood).

In 1931, visited with Big Band New Orleans, returning to New York, played in Harlem and on Broadway. During the 30 years, made several tours in Europe and North Africa, which brought him fame not only overseas but at home (especially in the United States it has been popular mainly in the black audience). In the intervals between tours with the orchestra played Charlie Geynza, "Chick" Webb, "Kid" 0ri, L. Russell and others, with the vocal quartet Mills Brothers, in numerous theatrical productions and radio broadcasts, starred in films, once again led the jazz band (from 1933, with the participation of Teddy Wilson and "Kera" Johnson). Posted autobiographical book "Swing That Music (New York, 1936)". Had several operations, . treatment-related long-standing occupational injury of the upper lip (deformation and rupture of tissues due to excessive mouthpiece pressure and improper embouchure), . as well as surgery on ligaments (with it unsuccessfully tried to get rid of hoarse voice frequency, . only later realized its value for themselves as a unique individuality of his vocal mannerisms),
.

In the future, Armstrong's popularity continued to grow, thanks to his tireless and versatile musical activities. The most remarkable performances led by All Star Band (with Jack Tigardenom, . "Bud" Freeman, . "Fats" Waller, . "Barney" Bigard, . Earl Heinz, . Sid Catlett, . "Cozy" Cole, . Edmond Hall, . "Tramm" Yang, . Billy Kyle, . singer Velma Middleton), . joint creative work with Sidney Bechet, . "Bing Crosby, . Billie Holiday, . Ella Fitzgerald, . Oscar Peterson, . Cy Oliver and other "stars" of jazz, . participated in jazz festivals (1948 - Nice, . 1956-58 - Newport, . 1959 - Italy, . Monterey), . performances in many European countries, . Latin America, . Africa, . Asia,
. Under his auspices, organized several philharmonic jazz concerts in the Town Hall and at the Metropolitan Opera.

In 1954 he wrote a second autobiographical book "Satchmo. My Life in New Orleans ". He left a huge number of recordings, including "King" Oliver (1923), F. Henderson (1926), Cl. Williams (1924-25), "Ma" Rainey, Bessie Smith, P. Bradford (1924), E. Tate (1926), C. Becher (1926, 40), Jimmy Bertrand (1927), J. Doddeom, K. Dickerson, Earl Heinz (1928, 1930-31), V. Geynzom, K. Oliver, Gordon Jenkins (in the early 50-ies), with its own orchestra and the All Star Bands.

Creativity Armstrong - a sort of standard, an ideal "model" of mainstream jazz - a living and constantly evolving, but not the "museum" of traditionalism. Breadth of his interests reaffirm cooperation and joint performances with musicians of different styles - from Dixieland, . swing and modern jazz, . with simfonizirovannymi compositions, . Sweet Band, . Implementing spirituals and gospels, . church choirs, . blues singers, . as well as participation in the philharmonic jazz concerts, . musicals, . Shows, . musical films (over 50), . execution jazz version of Gershwin's opera "Porgy and Bess" (with Ella Fitzgerald),
.

Armstrong has created a certain kind of "pop-jazz", flexibly adapts to any dance style and context to any audience, unable to satisfy the tastes of different audiences (including fans of pop music and schlager). Armstrong - perhaps the most unique personality in the history of jazz. In his work he joined unjoinable: unique individual style of expression with unlimited public access to music, . rugged simplicity and spontaneity, . traditionalism with innovation, . Negro hot-ideal with Europeanized idioms of swing and modern jazz.,
