Birth 30 August 1954, Mr.. Town Kopys Orsha district, Vitebsk region Republic of Belarus. He graduated from the Mogilev Pedagogical Institute in 1973. the qualification "teacher of history and social science". Belarusian Agricultural Academy graduated in absentia, with the qualification "economist-organizer of agricultural production". Chairman of the Community of Sovereign Republics (SSR).
He worked as a teacher, was secretary of the Komsomol committee of rural school N1 in Shklov (Mogilev region).
In 1975. was drafted into the army. He served in the Border Forces.

In 1996, Lukashenko dissolved the parliament and the opposition held a referendum which adopted a new constitution. Lukashenko's term of office was extended by this document to 2001. However, the Belarusian opposition is not recognized any new constitution, nor the extension of Lukashenko. In May 1999, the opposition attempted to hold their own presidential election, but this attempt failed.
