Up to 17 years Ivan Maslov lived in his native village. In 1937 he graduated from the 7 classes and went to Moscow, where he enrolled in school and flying club at FZO Sretenke. Then followed a crash course in Borisoglebskaya military aviation school, traveled for 9 months - was at war with the Finns, and it was clear that the close encounter with Germany's fascism.

Military service Lieutenant Ivan Maslov began in 1940 in the 157 th Fighter Aviation Regiment at the airfield near Leningrad Levashovo. In it, he has served since the inception and until the disbandment of the regiment in 1949.

He fought in five types of planes: I-16, LaGG-3, Hurricane, Yak-7, Yak-3. In 1941 he defended the skies of the northern capital, flew to attack the enemy. In one of the air combat was hit, but wounded, managed to land the plane on its airfield.

In 1942 I.V. Maslov fought on the Kalinin Front. His first victory he won in the Rzhev, . shot down behind enemy lines transport S-52 on the plight of low-speed Hurricanes, . albeit with a very strong home-grown weaponry: British Browning were replaced by four native 20-mm cannon ShVAK.,

Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from August 1, 1944 I.V. Maslova was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
His latest, 350-th combat sortie Captain I.V. Maslov made May 1, 1945. Results for the Great Patriotic War in 100 air battles, he personally shot down 22 and a group of 19 enemy aircraft.
In the postwar period I.V. Maslov continued to serve in aviation. In 1948 he was one of those who first started to learn a new technique - Helicopters.
