Born in the village CONDOLO Petrovsky District, Saratov Province (now - Penza region).. He studied at the Faculty of Moscow University, worked in the provincial theaters in Moscow Vvedenskoye People's House (Head - H. F. Aksagarsky). Prior to 1917 - an actor of the Moscow Dramatic Theater. In the cinema since 1908. Among the best roles: violinist Truhachevsky ( 'Kreutzer Sonata' - 1911), . Admiral Kornilov ( 'Defense of Sevastopol' - 1911), . Mavrushka, . he is also a Guards officer ( 'The House in Kolomna' - 1913), . Germany ( 'The Queen of Spades' - 1916), . . Worked in creative collaboration with director Jacob Protazanov, as well - actress and wife Natalia Lysenko. He acted in more than a hundred films (in Russia and abroad). From scripting to a number of films, poet (published in the Russian film-press). He emigrated in 1920, was filmed in France and Hollywood (under the name Moskin). He died in Paris, is buried in the cemetery of Saint Zhenev-des-Bois.
