She was born on December 15, 1943 in the village of Pyshma, Sverdlovsk region. Father - Shavrin Feoktist Yevstigneyevich, driver. Mother - Mostovshchikova Theodosia, housewife.
Catherine Shavrina spent her childhood and adolescence in Perm. Almost four years she could not speak. Parents did not immediately understand the reason - the girl was born deaf and needed serious operation. The parents sold their cow in order to obtain money for treatment. The doctor, old professor, whom they found, carried out the operation but did not take money. After this Katya simultaneously started to speak and sing.
From childhood she attracted people by her singing. Catherine remembers that in school, she sang for her teachers - they could not stop listening to the singing of a talented girl.
Her parents died early and left her five sisters and a brother, she was to feed them. She had to add some years to her age, because children were forbidden to work at that time. Initially she worked as a cleaner at the Sverdlov Cultural House.
She earned her living and fed the large family, and also performed in Russian folk choir of the Perm region. She greatly impressed the jury during her first performance, particularly Irma Petrovna Yauzen, who offered her to move to the capital.
Catherine tried to enter medical school, but did not pass the exams because along with her studies, she worked in three amateur clubs.
From my youth I remember only one thing - says Ekaterina - concerts, home, work, sleep 3-4 hours, and again the concerts, rehearsals, and again ... It was so difficult that now I wonder how I could manage all this... '
Catherine's GITIS classmates were Alla Pugacheva, Pavel Slobodkin, Alexei Kozlov.
G.F. Ponomarenko wrote the first song for the singer - 'Naryan-Mar', 'Bell' and 'Poplars', which led her to the stage.
In 1970 the singer toured the country and abroad, including Brazil, the United States, Cuba.
