Victoria inherited the throne of Britain in the age of 18. During the first years of her reign, she was strongly influenced by the Prime Minister Lord Melbourne (Melbourne).
In 1840 Victoria married Prince Albert, Saxon-Gotburgskogo (Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha). The marriage was very happy, the couple had nine children, most of whom married into the royal houses of Europe. Prince Albert died in 1861 from typhoid.
