He studied at the J. Giannini in Rio de Janeiro, followed by L. Rossi in Milan composition class. In 1861, set in the National Opera House in Rio de Janeiro opera "Night at the Castle" - the first Brazilian opera work. In 1870 i.i. lived in Italy since 1880 - in Brazil, since 1895 - Director of the Conservatory in Belene. The main thing in the legacy Gomis - Opera: "John Flanders" (1863), "Guarani" (1870, Milan), "Salvador Rosa" (1874), "Mary Tudor" (1875), "Cuffy" (1876), "Condor ( 1891). In operas Gomis affects strong influence of Italian opera school, in particular the creative J. Verdi. Gomes also belong to the cantata, in t.ch. Columbus (1892), masses, hymns, choruses, songs.
