Autobiographical notes
Born January 12, 1953 in Moscow. Father - a journalist, mother - a philologist. From 1964 to 1967 he studied at the Moscow Art School, where he was expelled, then, from 1968 to 1972 - in memory of the Moscow Art College in 1905, which ended in separation promgrafiki and advertising. After three years he studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, has not tired. For a long time worked as an illustrator and designer of books in the Moscow publishing houses. I was lucky as a child: the parents interacted with Dm.Krasnopevtsevym, G. Kostaki, O. Rabin. In 1967 he became acquainted with Roginskaya, his painting has made big impression on me. In 1969 I became friendly with A. Monastyrsky, N. Panitkovym, L. Rubinstein, communication with whom was for me very important. I started as almost everything - from something like "surrealism" (rather abstract). At the same time making handwritten, painted books of poetry, so that the interest in combining image and text appeared long. In the early 70's there were at least some information about conceptualism and its predecessor or related flows (however, Duchamp was already known about earlier). Interestingly, the "conceptualization" of the Moscow art occurred in large part because of music - the works of John Cage and other composers - and their propagandists in Moscow, for example, Alexei Lyubimov. All this, moreover, was intricately intertwined with the mystical and esoteric practices, which, however, were perceived instrumentally, as a possible means of a new approach to art. That's when I began to formulate a "negative" approach to art: it is not craft, . not religion, . not politics, . not science, . because stool, . Paradise, . social activities, . scientific discoveries directly related to it have, . Although the art and may sobstvnnyh to them or seek to use them, . In addition, the arts are formed continuously, and to determine their diachronically nevomozhno. Of course, these are critical, the current state of art in п?1п? century artist, I probably would not. In 1975-80 was a member of the group "Collective Actions". In the end, as a result of differences from the monastery (I think that our work is too full; interpreting and isolated in a small circle of Moscow's "elite") came out of the "KD". During these years, met Chuikov and I. Kabakov, who is obliged to many. Toward the end of the decade closed with the artists of the "second" generation - "fly agarics, A. Filippov, V. Zakharov, Y., Albert, M. Roshal. It was a time of important changes in the Moscow art. Although, . Now I understand, . that the monastery was absolutely right in its sequence: not long before the phenomenon of "KD" would have been incomplete, . and creativity of other artists, . example, . "Medgermenevtiki" (and, . respectively, . following behind them) would not be possible, . In the late 70's was one of the initiators of the "Mani" (Moscow archive of the new art), the company is very timely in the era of no show, the press and general public communication. In 1982-84 held in his apartment "gallery APTART". In 1985-87 took part in the activities of the rock group "Russian Upland" (Organizers S. Gundlah and Ovchinnikov). In 1987 he went to France - both for purely personal reasons, and because that Moscow began hysterical time, I do not like. However, Moscow's relations with its circle is not interrupted by participating in joint projects and regularly coming to Moscow. In 1993, returned as reasons eigratsii - for me, and so far at least - have ceased to exist. Not having any illusions about what is happening in the culture and society, I believe that it is now undergoing fundamental change, which may completely change the concept of art or even make art in its present sense irrelevant. I am interested to see how my personal understanding of art can exist in the new space, and whether.
