Monk, the monk of Kiev-Pechersk monastery, the first known by the name of Russian icon painter. He studied at the locust artists who worked on the mosaic murals Crypt Church (1083 - 89) and died about 1114. His memory is celebrated on August 17. Tradition ascribes A. icon of the Virgin, set in the Rostov Cathedral Vladimir Monomakh, and the icon "Repre Queen" in the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow.
