Biography Beketov Andrei (botanist)
born November 26, 1825, died July 1, 1902, Mr.. Upon completion of the course in high school he entered the Faculty of Oriental languages, but with a 2-year student left the university and established (1842) the army cadet in the Guards regiment of Chasseurs. Soon, however, retired, moved to Kazan, and joined a volunteer at the natural level of Kazan University, who was famous then for its scientists Forces (Klaus Wagner, Eversman, etc.). With a. N. listened to lectures his brother, Nikolai Nikolaevich (now an academician), п?.п?. Butlerov and NP. Wagner. At the end of a university course (1849), Beketov went to Tiflis, where he took the place of teaching science in high school there the. In 1853, Mr.. Beketov in St. Petersburg received a Master of botany for the composition of the flora of the Tiflis. Soon Beketov moved to Moscow, where he defended his thesis "On the morphological relationships of leaf parts among themselves and with the stem" (1858). The following year Beketov took the chair of botany at the Kharkov University, and in 1861,. moved to St. Petersburg, where he was chosen extraordinary professor in the department of botany. Initiated Beketova arranged at the University Botanical Garden. His long-term professorship Beketov contributed to the emergence of a number of Russian scientists botanists, many of whom have now been occupied by university faculty. Teaching Beketova devoted not only to the university, but also the highest female rates. Beketov also took a very active part in the work of Congress of Russian naturalists and physicians who are not just elected to the chairmen. In addition to the above master's and doctoral theses, it should be noted: "The course of botany to college students" (St. Petersburg, h. I, 1862 - 64; h. II, 1871; new edition, 1869) - the first time a full systematic botany textbook, "Textbook of Botany" (St. Petersburg, 1882 - 85). Then Beketov owns a number of popular scientific works, are: to endure a lot of publications - "Conversations about the land and creatures" (St. Petersburg, 1864 - 79); "From the life of nature and people" (1870), "Conversations about animals" (1885) , "the main edible fungi and harmful" (1889). In addition, the Russian scientific literature is required Beketov translations of many major Western science works (Jakob Schleiden, Huxley, Lyuben, de Bari, Jaeger, Grizebaha, Rosmesslera, etc.). Beketov was one of the editors of 82-volume "Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Brockhaus-Efron, which published a series of articles on botany.
