Biography Bolotov Vasily
(born December 31, 1853, died April 5, 1900). The son of a deacon Tver diocese, Bolotov was educated in Tver theological seminary in St. Petersburg. Theological Academy, where then taught the general church history. In 1879, Mr.. Bolotov defended his master's thesis "The doctrine of Origen on the SW. Trinity (St. Petersburg, 1879). With thorough and profound theological education Bolotov combined the most extensive and versatile philological knowledge. Immediately after the appointment of the chair Bolotov has bound itself to know the language first-hand the ancient church history: Greek, Latin, sirsky, Arabic, Coptic, Ethiopian, Armenian. His linguistic skills are not limited to only those languages. Learning languages in general, he stood on the grounds of comparative linguistics, and he had a direct interest in this field, he is describing himself as a "linguist". Ethiopian language he knew of two kinds: not only ancient, liturgical (gyyz), but also a new, colloquial (Amharic). With knowledge of Coptic he combined familiarity with the language and ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. Bolotov was also familiar with the Assyrian-Babylonian cuneiform. He was engaged in the Persian language in its various forms (ancient cuneiform, Zend and persian). As for the linguist, was for his interest and Sanskrit. In Greek, he occasionally sent letters to I.E. Trinity. Among the new languages besides German, French, English, Italian, Bolotov read more languages: Dutch, Danish, Norwegian and Portuguese (the latter was necessary when he exercises the history of Ethiopia).
