Genetics, breeder. Born in Moscow in the family of the guild master tailoring. Graduated Novoaleksandriysky Institute of Agriculture and Forestry in the Polish city of Pulawy (1897). From 1898 to 1901. worked as a statistician in the Moscow city council, then in the Vladimir provincial zemstvos, where in 1901. dismissed as "politically unreliable". In 1903, Mr.. He was appointed district agronomist Balashov of Saratov province. In 1904. participated in the Russian-Japanese war in 1905. evacuated as "unreliable". Since 1908. directed Balashovskaya experimental agricultural station, where he focused on the breeding of winter and spring wheat and maize, as well as the technology of cultivation of field crops. Saratov Experimental Station was one of the leading breeding centers in the country. It worked well-known experts such as AP Shekhurdin, EM Placek, B. M. Arnold, Tsitsin. Under the leadership of GK Meister began research on interspecific and intergeneric hybridization (soft-hard wheat, rye and wheat). A number of common wheat (Sarrubra, Sarroza, Saratov 210, Albidum 43 and so on). GK Meister attached great importance to the development of the station theoretical, exploratory and methodological studies, the combined efforts of breeders with geneticists, technologists, phytopathology, physiology and other professionals. He was one of the organizers of seed production in the Volga. From 1920 to 1937. GK Meister headed the Department of Genetics and Breeding of the Saratov Agricultural Institute. He wrote the owner of such famous works as "rye-wheat hybrids" (1923), "A brief critical determinant of cereals ..." (1926), "A critical sketch of the basic concepts in genetics" (1934), "Handbook of selection" (1936) and others. In 1934, Mr.. he was awarded a doctorate in biological sciences, and in 1935. - Title of academician of Academy of Agricultural Sciences. GK Meister was Vice President of Agricultural Sciences (1935-1937 gg.), Acting president of Agricultural Sciences (1937). Member of the CPSU (b) since 1930, a member of the Central Executive Committee (1935). He was awarded the Order of Lenin and "Badge of Honor". At the session of VASKhNIL 1936. defended the correctness of classical genetics, called to ensure that the discussion of controversial issues was strictly scientific and principled. Arrested in 1937.
