Biography Karataev Ivan Petrovich
Place of the merchant class, but he never engaged in trade. From an early age began to collect early printed Slavonic books and old prints. In 40-ies became acquainted with Sakharov, Averin, Tsarskoe, Pogodin and others, and they obliged by many councils. Karataev taken a number of trips to Russia and was one of the finest collections of early printed books, which passed into the Imperial Public Library. . Issue I. 1491 - 1600 "(St. Petersburg, 1878). The latter work, despite the incompleteness and some inaccuracies, is a very important tool for the history of our printing. Karataev was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and the Imperial Public Library. Died in 1886
