He worked at the court of the governor of Khorasan Tahir al-Husayn al-A'vara (mind. 822), and then - from al-Hasan ibn Sahl (mind. 850), vizier of the Caliph al-Ma'muna. IB. written numerous papers on various astrological matters. 16 of his works were translated into Latin and circulated widely in late medieval Europe.
