Biography Reyngoldt Alexander
Born in 1856 in St. Petersburg, in a Lutheran family, whose ancestors moved to Russia from England. He graduated from the course at the University of Tartu, in History and Philology. Shortly after wrote a pamphlet "Zur Gymnasialfrage" and placed in German periodicals, several articles on Russian writers. From 1883 to 1885 he compiled the history of Russian literature: "Geschichte der russischen Litteratur von ihrem Anfang bis auf die neuste Zeit", was incorporated in the published series in Leipzig, Friedrich "Geschichte der Weltlitteratur in Einzeldarstellungen". This book is still the main source from which to draw Germany's systematic information on our literature. The author lovingly refers to Russian literature and the ideas of the leading Russian critic and publicist, and his book is almost always faithful echo of Russian views on the artistic and social significance of our writers. "History of Russian Literature" brought to 1885 and at one time was generally the first full review of all the literary development of the Russian people. Since the late 80-ies started cooperation P. in Russian periodicals (in "News", "Week", "North", "Northern Messenger," Cosmopolis "," Russian Wealth "and others). He has written several original stories, many poems and several articles about the new movement in German and Scandinavian literatures. He died in 1902.
