(1918-1990)
Born August 25, 1918 in Lawrence (pc. Mass.). He graduated from Harvard University (1939) and the Curtis Institute of Music (1941), perfected in the art of conducting with Serge Koussevitzky and was his assistant at a music festival in Tanglvude in 1942. Occupying in 1943-1944 as assistant conductor of the symphony orchestra of the New York Philharmonic, . Bernstein, . youngest of the conductors, . worked with the orchestra, . attracted worldwide attention, . glossy replacing the venerable Bruno Walter at a concert on Nov. 14, 1943,
. He played with the New York Symphony Orchestra (1943-1947), the Palestinian Jewish Symphony Orchestra (1947) and with the New York Philharmonic (1949-1950).

As a composer, Bernstein and paid tribute to the classics, and modern. In 1944 he wrote the music for the ballet Nevlyublyayuschiysya (Fancy Free); later on this basis was established musical dismissal of the city (On the Town).
