Biography BLUMENBAH Johann Friedrich (Blumenbach Johann Friedrich)
Born in Gotha (Germany), May 11, 1752. He studied at Jena and GцTttingen universities. In 1775 received his doctorate in medicine. In 1776-1835 - Professor of Clinical Medicine and Head of the Cabinet of Natural History at the University of GцTttingen. Engaged in comparative anatomy and physiology. He studied the anatomy of the skull, especially the hair and the color of human skin. The most famous works Blumenbaha on comparative anatomy and systematic distribution. In his opinion, all people can be assigned to one of five races: Caucasian, Mongolian, Ethiopian, American and Malay, which nevertheless constitute a variation of a single species, formed under the influence of climatic conditions. He expressed the idea of common origin of different species.
