DANNUNTSIO Gabriele (DAnnunzio Gabriele)

(1863-1938)
Born March 12, 1863 in Pescara, in a noble family. Out of the first volumes of poetry Spring (Primo vere, 1880) and New Song (Canto nuovo, 1882) coincided with the beginning of his amorous adventures - an important component of the 'myth' D'Annunzio. For naturalistic collection of short stories of San Pantaleone (San Pantaleone, . 1886) was followed by a novel Flame (Il Fuoco, . 1900), . sensational connection with Eleonora Duse, . panic flight to Paris from lenders and life in France, . where he published The Martyrdom of St. Sebastian (Le Martyre de St,
. Sebastien, 1911). The First World War gave him the opportunity to return home in the role of pilot-hero. After the war he became notorious capture of the city of Fiume (Rijeka in Croatia), contrary to the decisions of the Italian Government and the League of Nations. This event made an impression on Mussolini in 1922 undertook a campaign to Rome. When fascism D'Annunzio did not play a prominent role, but the authorities treated him with reverence. In 1924 he received the title of Prince of Monte impossible. D'Annunzio died in his villa on Lake Garda March 1, 1938.
