Biography Georges Danton (Danton Georges-Jacques)
(1759-1794) Born October 26, 1759 in Arcis-sur-Aube. He studied law, practiced law. In 1790 - one of the leaders of the Club des Cordeliers and Jacobin Club. Participated in the capture of the Tuileries 9.10 August 1792. He became Minister of Justice and member of the Transitional Executive Council. When September 2 in Champagne entered the Prussian army, appealed to the nation called to defend the country. Popularity Danton irritated other political leaders, especially Robespera and Saint-Just. Danton's reputation was undermined when he was accused of acquiring property through secret deals with the royalists. In July 1973, Danton was removed from the Committee of Public Safety, established in April 1793, left Paris, he settled at home and at the time, withdrew from political life. However, in late 1793 Danton returned to the capital, at the head of the opposition faction of moderate and tried to soften the revolutionary regime of terror imposed by Robespierre. He was convicted at a meeting of the Committee of Public Safety Saint-Just and arrested on March 30, 1794. Danton's speech at the trial of the revolutionary tribunal was so bright that he was charged with contempt of Justice. Danton was guillotined in Paris on April 5, 1794.
