Biography Jan Kochanowski (Kochanowski Jan)
Born in 1530 near Radom. He studied first in Poland, then to the University of Padua in Italy. He traveled to Italy and France, in 1559 he returned to Poland. He died in Lublin, 22 August 1584.
Kochanowski, introduced in the Polish poetry humanistic ideals of the Renaissance, and his writings are imbued with ancient allusions. He has written about 7000 poems in Latin, 16 700 in Polish, as well as a small number of prose. He composed epigrams, songs, and political poems on modern themes. Its main works are in verse arrangement of the Psalms of David (Psasterz Dawidw), a short tragic story of the ancient Greek ambassador Refusal (Odprawa postw greckich) and a cycle of 19 laments, elegies Tren (Treny, 1580) - on the death of his daughter.
