(1792-1842)
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on Oct. 3, 1792. In 1821, engaged in political activities. In 1824 he was appointed General Secretary of the Government of Honduras. In 1826, organized resistance to the invading army of the country, Manuel Josö? Arce and 11 November 1827 in the valley of La Trinidad routed the army of conservatives. Restored the government and was elected head of state. In the Battle of Gualcho in Guatemala Morazö?n again defeated troops Arce and 12 April 1829 entered into Guatemala City.
In March 1830 Morazö?n was elected president in 1835 and reelected for a second term. Held the secularization of church lands, proclaimed freedom of religion, contributed to the development of industry, trade and education. In 1939 the Confederation broke. Morazö?n led the Salvadoran army reflected the combined intervention of the Honduran-Nicaraguan case and 18 July 1839 became President of El Salvador. March 18, 1840 took the capital, but was forced to retreat. Relinquished his presidential powers and went into exile - first in Colombia, then in Peru. In 1842 he returned to Central America and led the Costa Rican liberals. In April 1842 the Liberals troops seized the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose, and in July Morazö?n was elected president of the country, which is intended to be used as a springboard for recovery of the Central American Confederation. In September, officers of the garrison mutinied. After three days of fierce street battles Morazö?n was captured and executed at the central square of San Jose on Sept. 15, 1842.
