Biography Gordon Willard Allport (Allport Gordon Willard)
(1897-1967) Born in Montezuma (pc. Indiana), November 11, 1897. He was educated at Harvard University and the Universities of Berlin, Hamburg and Cambridge. He taught at Robert College in Constantinople, at Harvard and Dartmouth College, became a teacher, and since 1942 - professor of psychology at Harvard University. The best known work Allport on the theory of personality and social psychology. Established Allport theory of 'functional autonomy', under which funds may become targets, widespread, displacing views on the motivation of an adult as a result of hereditary or infant motivation. In 1937-1949 Allport was the editor of 'Journal of abnormal and social psychology' ( 'Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology').
