Biography OSMENYA Sergio (Osmea Sergio)
Born in Cebu on Sept. 9, 1878. He studied at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, received a law degree in 1903.
In 1904, became governor of the province of Cebu, in 1907 - a member of the Philippine National Assembly, founded the National Party. Remained its leader until 1921. In 1922 he took his seat in the Senate. In 1931 he was the head of mission in the negotiations with the United States to grant the Philippines independence, which ended with the adoption of the law Heyer - Hossa - Cutting. The law was rejected by the National Assembly. In 1934 Osmenya upheld a law Taydingsa - MacDuffie, providing for a term full independence of the Philippines.
In 1935 Osmenya became vice-president. As President Quezon was sick for a long time, duties and powers Osmeni at his post were very broad, especially in exile (in Washington) during the Second World War. After the death of Quezon in August 1944 formally transferred power to Osmene. Three months later, he personally observed the landing of American troops under the command of General MacArthur on the shores o.Leyte. In April 1946, lost the elections, Manuel Rojas.
