Biography Manuel Rojas (Roxas Manuel)
(1892-1948)
Born January 1, 1892 in Kapisa (island PANA). He graduated from the University of the Philippines. In 1915-1916 he taught law at the National University in Manila, practiced law in Kapisa. In 1919 he was elected governor of the province in 1921 - deputy of the House of Representatives. He became Speaker of the House of Representatives passed the Senate instead of Sergio Osmeni. In the 1923-1924, 1929-1930, 1931-1933 participated in the negotiations on the Granting of Independence to the Philippines. Last round of talks summarized the law Kheir - Hossa - Cutting, which were formulated in terms of sovereignty. When Quezon and the Philippine Senate rejected those conditions, Rojas was removed as speaker, but a year later elected a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1934 and 1935, where he headed the antikesonovskuyu fraction.
In 1937, Rojas was appointed a member of the Joint Preparatory Committee on Philippine Affairs, became chairman of the National Economic Council and then President of the Company's national development. In 1938, served as finance minister in the office of Quezon, in 1941 was elected to the Senate. Stayed at o.Korrehidor, when MacArthur and Philippine leaders have been evacuated to Australia, but later fled to Mindanao, where he led guerrilla. He was captured by the Japanese and agreed to take the post of minister without portfolio in the puppet government of H. Laurel

. After the liberation of the islands Rojas had a vigorous campaign for re-election for the presidency, and with the support of General MacArthur and the widow of the late President Quezon on April 23, 1946 elections, managed to defeat President Sergio Osmenya
. July 4, 1946, after independence, became president of the Republic of the Philippines. Rojas died in Clark Field at Manila April 15, 1948.
